We hope that everyone had a splendid winter break, and welcome to the start of a new year, and a new term!

During this Spring Term, do watch out for MANY of the upcoming events that are coming your way held by BrUCL; for example, BrUCL’s annual ice-skating, Laser Tag, annual National Day Dinner/Lunch and etc, InsyAllah (do check the Upcoming Events Section). Also, events hosted by other societies

Getting Lost in London with BrUCL

The Lost in London 2011 event was a success held on 12^th November 2011 in its third year running after establishing the event in 2009, organized by University College London Union Bruneian Society (BrUCL) committee members. The event involved discovering one of the busiest cities in the world, London, while completing tasks and challenges along the way for all Bruneian students in the United Kingdom, as well as some non-Bruneian UCL students. Teams were only allowed to travel by foot, enabling participants to be independent of London’s public transport and search through every inch of London’s streets. Participants stomped through the city of London with their easily seen yellow t-shirts, which were sponsored by Royal Brunei Airlines.

30 teams composed of 3 people in each group of students all around United Kingdom participated in the event, also with the help of 20 volunteers. The support from other Bruneian societies and students in the United Kingdom was outstanding, where teams coming from afar such as Southampton and Bath were present, and even nearby students such as from Imperial College London attended.

The route started off in UCL’s Main Quad where the event was blessed with Doa Selamat recited by BrUCL’s President for the years 2011-2012, Muhammad Shu’aib bin Haji Kamaludin. Part of the route also involved locating The School of Oriental and African Studies’ (SOAS) Brunei Gallery, visiting one of the most well known museums in London – British Museum, experiencing the theatric vibe that London has to offer through Shaftesbury Avenue, stepping on to one of London’s most vibrant public space of Trafalgar Square and dancing on one of the major shopping streets of London in Piccadilly Circus. Lastly, the route ended in Brunei Hall via London’s tube transportation, where the prize presentation was also held.

The winning team, Dora’s Explorers, received a prize of 3 iBeats earphones; second place went to Bus No. 27 with the prize of 3 iPod Shuffles, and coming in third place was The Jengs receiving 3 Thorpe Park tickets.

University College London Union and Brunei Students Unit gladly supported this event. And, once again, a big thank you to RBA for sponsoring our T-shirts!
